Tennessee State Rep. Joe Armstrong found guilty of fraud

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A jury found Knoxville State Rep. Joe Armstrong guilty of filing a fraudulent tax return.

The jury found him not guilty of conspiracy to defraud the United States and tax evasion. Prosecutors say the fraud charge is a felony and Armstrong could face up to three years in prison.

U.S. Attorney Charles Atchley said the government will be asking the court to sentence Armstrong to jail time and that Armstrong could end up paying hundreds of thousands of dollars.
