Geneva (AFP) – The number of alleged money laundering transactions linked to the 2018 and 2022 World Cups bids won by Russia and Qatar has ballooned from 53 to 81, a spokesman for Switzerland’s chief prosecutor told AFP on Sunday.

Corrupt Secret Service agent Shaun W. Bridges to plead guilty to Silk Road Bitcoin theft
For computer crime expert and ex-Secret Service agent Shaun W. Bridges, the long arm of the law is about to extend itself from the opposite direction to what he had become accustomed during his career, concluding a case brought against two officers in April this year.
Formerly a member of the Secret Service task force which investigated anonymous online marketplace Silk Road’s illicit activities which included the facilitation of narcotics sale and money laundering, resulting in the seizure of the website by the US government, and the conviction and incarceration of founder Ross Ulbricht, Mr. Bridges is accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in Bitcoin, and routing the money to his own accounts according to federal court documents.
According to a criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco, California, Mr. Bridges’ involvement in the conviction of Mr. Ulbricht for narcotics trafficking, money laundering and computer hacking extends much further.

A new poll out Wednesday shows that New Yorkers are fed up with corruption in Albany and believe the state should simply start with a clean slate of lawmakers.
A whopping 55% of those surveyed in a Quinnipiac University poll said “all elected officials” in Albany should be voted out of office so a group of uncorrupted, fresh faces can take over.
Only 28% disagreed and said that the current crowd is capable of ending political corruption in Albany.
“Can Albany fix itself? A lot of New Yorkers don’t think so,”said Maurice Carroll, Quinnipiac poll assistant director.
Illinois Near Top of Corruption List
The new standings are out, and Illinois remains No. 3 in the nation when it comes to political corruption. This is according to a University of Illinois study of 2013 data. On a per capita basis, only Louisiana and the District of Columbia had more political and government corruption convictions in federal court than Illinois did. 2, not 12 policemen detained over suspected human trafficking
The Home Ministry clarified that only two policemen were suspected to be involved in human trafficking, contrary to reported 12 who were detained over the crime.
Deputy Minister Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar today said another two policemen and 10 enforcement officers from various agencies were nabbed for “ordinary smuggling” which, he explained, had nothing to do with human trafficking.

KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities have arrested 12 police officers suspected to be linked to human trafficking activities.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Jaafar (pix) said today the possibility of them being connected to the mass graves found in Perlis is also being investigated.
Four of the officers were arrested by the police themselves while the other eight were picked up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in three separate anti-human trafficking operations, dubbed “Ops Pintas”.
FIFA Corruption Charges Leave Soccer Fans Stunned
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The corruption charges against FIFA officials leave those who follow soccer closely stunned on Wednesday morning.
Soccer fans have long expressed their concerns with how FIFA operates. But actual arrests and charges, CBS 3 soccer expert Kevin Kinkead says, are surprising.
“This is unprecedented,” says Kinkead. “I can’t make any kind of comparison to American sports.”
FIFA controls everything soccer, Kinkead says, and it has never been challenged by a government like this.
